Mean, moody and magnificent!

Promo still for Ray Le Maistre, music critic. As featured on Chris Hawkins' BBC 6Music show burying the hatchet firmly in the legend that is the Beatles!

Bandz Wot You Have Seen

OK, so just swapping emails with Al McG about the music they play on the BBC's 6Music channel that he listens to (on the Web) over in Australia.
It seems that the station plays a lot of stuff from the late 1970s and 1980s -- the core JerseyDayz era.

Then AL mentioned that Rog Batrley is -- right now, Thursday Oct 17, nearly 9am in UK so about 1am California time -- having his eardrums blasted at a 'UK Subs' gig down the road from his place in, er, California.

The UK Subs? What -- with zimmer frames? That's incredible. Wasn't Charlie Harper old looking even in the late 1970s? I guess the Stones are older.

Then Al mentioned how 6Music was playing Sham 69 stuff this morning -- he wrote:

The feature 'live at 4' had Sham 69 playing 'live' from 1979 - "Hersham Boys", "Kids are United" et al.

Wow. Maybe that's a band that many folk may have forgotten about, but as I lived next to hersham for 10 years until June 2005, and still drive through Hersham on my way to 5-a-side football on a Monday evening, the peaceful melody that is 'Hersham Boys' is a regular item in my mental MP3 player. Got to say, though, I have NEVER seen anyone wearing laced up boots and corduroys around those parts...

Anyone else seen any bands of yore?

Is that a sun tan?

Ray Le Maistre with a sun tan, surely not? Was this before or after the hay-baling? Summer 1985 on a campsite in deepest Dorset. One chip or two?

Get behind the sofa

Why we shouldn't have been scared of the Cybermen.

Al McGregor and Graeme Holmes put finishing touches to the Doctor's fiercest foe! (Actually it was a 22nd birthday present for Roger Bartley in 1985)
